Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Rushmore Room , 444 N. Mt. Rushmore Rd

Quilt check-in June 9th
Set up and quilt hanging on June 9th and 10th.
Lots of help needed for that if you can come. Starts around 10:30 am on wed. |
Thanks to the 30 - 40 great women on committees, everything is perking merrily along.
If you are not on a committee and would like to help, please call me.
I simply can't believe we are getting so close. I'm sure it will be another great show. Time to look around and see what can be finished up and entered in the show. We will have many of the same vendors and about 6 or 7 new ones this year. The fabric Challenge is a big favorite. All the packets were sold, so I'm thinking it will be a great display. Challenge packets for 2011 will be available at the quilt show.
There will be some special displays, including a really fun Round Robin that was passed around during 2009. Approximately 35 BHQG members joined in. If you participated, please be sure to have your quilt available for the display, quilted or not. We will also have the Fabric Challenge from Wisconsin again. Always a great display.
Klaudeen Hansen will be our judge again this year. This section was instituted at the request of many members. We are one of the few shows in the area to have judging available for such a reasonable charge. $10 for members and $15 for non-members. If you would like to keep this
part of the show, please enter some quilts.
Quilt appraisals will again be available. Free demos all day long. The raffle quilt will be on display, tickets available. Tickets will be available for chances on another beautiful basket of Batiks and hand dyes.
The Awards banquet will be Saturday night. If you would consider being a table Hostess, Please contact Shirlene Anderson. We have a great lineup of trunk shows by Joan Kettlewell of the Quilt Connection, Joan Davis of Quilt Corral and Pearl Louise of Thimble Cottage. Banquet tickets will be on sale soon at local shops,Tuesday workdays and monthly meetings. Registration forms, UFO forms and Raffle tickets are available for download and printing from the website. |
Please watch the Quilt Show page on the website www.blackhillsquilters.org, , for updates. See you at the show, Rebecca |

| 2009 Potluck Christmas Party Success |
The Christmas Party was a huge success. Lots and lots of great food and wonderful turnout of friends. A special thanks to Charlotte, Karen, Kathy and Dawn for all their hard work. The Project Warmth qilts were won by Patty Black, Rosa Lea Grav and Darla Crown. The 12 winter blocks were won by Rebecca Smith. The big winners in the Left Right Center games were Ginger Nelson, Jean Stenberg, Mary Ann Thornburg, Rosa Lea Grav and Pat Mulvehill. The unveiling of the Round Robin project was great. So many beautiful items. Please remember that we are going to put them all in a special display at the quilt show in June. Jean Stenberg and Joyce Ketterling will be collecting them shortlly before the show. We would like to have them even if they are not quilted. Have a great Holiday Season! |

2009 Potluck Christmas Party
December 7th |
We hope you can come to our annual potluck Christmas Party at 6 PM on Monday December 7th at Faith Lutheran Church. There will be a $10 gift exchange if you want to participate in this activity. We will play the retreat hit game, “Left Center Right” this year so please bring 3 nice fat quarters to play. This a no brainer, extremely fun game using dice and a bit of luck. The winner goes home with all of the fat quarters from the game table. If you wish to make a 10 ½ inch winter block, we will have a drawing for the blocks – winner takes all. Project Warmth will be raffling the 4 Christmas quilts made for their fund raiser. You do not need to be present to win, so purchase your ticket soon - $1 per chance or 6 chances for $5. There will be an unveiling of the round robin quilts participants have made over the last year. It will be a very fun evening, so please mark your calendars and plan to attend!! | IT'S UFO SEASON AGAIN!! |
What, you may ask is a UFO?
For those of you who are new to the ways of the Black Hills Quilters Guild,
A UFO is an Un Finished Object.
Any quilt project which you began before August 1, 2008
(and is still waiting to be completed) |
If you need a little extra incentive to tackle some of those UFO's,well here it is! Go to the quilts show page and print out a contract for the UFO's you think you might be able to get done by next Quilt Show, June 5,6 &7, 2009.
Turn in or mail to Rosa Lea Grav,Ginger Jahner or Rene' Suiter. Finish and enter your UFO for tiny prizes and the chance to win the Traveling UFO Trophy for a year. Severe penalties for non-completion of the registered items. ( I think it is $1.00 which gets donated to Hospice House.) |
UFO contracts must be turned in by May 12! |

The Round Robin Our New Adventure in Quilting |
Starting in February, we will begin work on our new voluntary project.
First, here is a general description of a round robin quilt for those who may not have heard of them. It’s a quilt that is made by a group of quilters and is a variation of friendship blocks. To start, everyone makes her own block for the center. The blocks are passed to the next person in the group who will add the first border. Then the next quilter adds the second. This usually continues until there are four borders that have been sewn by four different quilters. The quilter who made the center block then gets the quilt top back to keep and finish. |

| LIBRARY NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!! |
Ben Franklin Store will be moving to a smaller store space and will no longer have room
for our library cabinet. On Tue January 6, we will be moving the cabinet to the community room at the Faith Lutheran Church. There will be a combination lock on the cabinet. The combination will be in your newsletter or contact any board member. Please write it down, maybe on the back of your membership card. The library cabinet will be available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8-3 ,Sunday 8-11:30 and during evening Guild meetings. If you cannot get to the church during these hours, perhaps you can ask someone to check out or return books for you. Sorry for any inconvenience, this was the only solution we could come up with on short notice. |

| Christmas Boots for the Troops |
On 6-28-08 the RCJournal did an article about Peg Seljeskog of RC going to
Langstuhl Hosp. in Germany to volunteer at the Wounded Warrior Ministry Center, which is supported by the Landstuhl Hospital Care Project. I
learned that LHCP (langstuhlhospitalcareproject.org) is a non-profit organization that provides comfort & relief items(clothing, toiletries &
items to enhance morale & welfare) for troops who become too sick, injured or wounded to be treated in the field hospitals in Iraq, Kuwait and
Afghanistan. After care there, they either return to the field or are airlifted to USA. It sounded like a good home for some of our stockings.I
contacted LHCP and learned that they have items to fill the stockings and woud be happy to receive some. If we come close to making the number we made
last year, maybe we'll have enough to cover our troops in the field and send some to LHCP. If you are interested in making stockings at home, there are
some cut out at the church or you can use the Elenor Burns "Christmas at Bear Paw Ranch" book. It's the one on page 60. We are not strip piecing
them, just cut out of 1 fabic.
